Offline mode of MYOB AccountRight desktop is being phased out
Move your company file online for more automation, better security and access to the latest product improvements.
Step 1: Check whether your file is already online
If your AccountRight file is already online, you don’t need to do anything. You will still be able to use AccountRight desktop app, as long as your company file is online.
To check, open AccountRight version 2026.5, only online files are displayed. If you can’t see your file, it’s offline and will need to be moved online for continued access.

Step 2: If your file is offline, choose your situation
Select the option that matches you. If you're not ready to move online, see If you’re not ready to move online section below.
Move your file online to keep using MYOB AccountRight without interruption.
There is no additional cost to move your existing subscribed file online.
Once online, you will be able to:
- Secure your data with automated cloud backups and secure cloud storage
- Keep access to bankfeeds and activate services like online payments and Pay Super
- Work together with your team with multi-user access
- Receive automatic updates, plus, performance and security improvements and future AI-powered features, enhancing the way you work.
To keep using MYOB AccountRight, you’ll need to buy an MYOB AccountRight subscription and move your file online. Once your file is online, you’ll also get automatic cloud backups, bank feeds, multi-user access and regular product updates.
1. Upload your file in AccountRight 2026.5
-
Sign in to AccountRight 2026.5 and click Upload Offline File.
-
Select your offline .myox file to upload
-
Click Subscribe now and follow the onscreen prompts to purchase an AccountRight subscription.
If you’re using AccountRight Plus or Premier, you’ll need a subscription for that same product.
If you’re using a different MYOB product, like AccountRight Standard, you’ll need to either upgrade to Plus or Premier. To compare features and pricing, visit our product and pricing page. For help with choosing, call us on 1300 793 427 (AU) or 0800 150 008 (NZ).
2. Change your file’s serial number to match your new subscription
Your serial number is a unique 12-digit ID that identifies your software. You’ll get a new one when you purchase an active AccountRight subscription. Before you can move the file online, you need to change the serial number in your offline company file to match your new subscription.
To change it, download AccountRight 2024.4 and sign in to your company file as an administrator. Go to the Help menu and choose Change Serial Number. See change your AccountRight serial number for more information on this step.
3. Move your file online
You’re ready for Step 3 below.
If you’re an accountant or bookkeeper supporting clients using AccountRight:
- Identify clients still using offline files through the desktop app (PC edition)
- Discuss their options
- Plan and schedule moving their file online to minimise disruption to their business - there is no additional cost to move existing subscribed files online
- Clients with offline files and no subscription need to buy an MYOB AccountRight subscription to move their file online. They will also need to change their file’s serial number to match their new subscription (see ‘I don’t have a subscription' tab for more details). Once they have a new serial number, link their online file in your MYOB Practice Compliance - Client Workspace dashboard.
Use MYOB resources and guidance to:
- Check whether a file is online or offline (see FAQs)
- Move eligible files online (see how)
- Help offline clients understand their options
If you need assistance with choosing the right MYOB product for your clients, to see your options, visit our product and pricing page, or contact us on 1300 555 117 (AU) or 0800 696 227 (NZ).
If you are a CAP (Connected Accountant Partner) or a bookkeeper partner using an offline file through AccountRight desktop app:
- To keep using MYOB AccountRight, you’ll need to buy an MYOB AccountRight subscription and move your file online. If you can’t move your file online, see If you’re not ready to move online section for a temporary solution.
- Each file that needs to be moved online will need an active subscription. You can keep your files offline temporarily using a Server Edition.
- If required, you can contact our support teams for assistance on how to move your file online.
Step 3: Move your file online
You can do this yourself. Follow the step-by-step instructions in Put your company file online.
Before you start, check that:
-
You have an active AccountRight Plus or Premier subscription.
-
Your file’s serial number matches your subscription. If your file has an old serial number, or someone else (like your accountant) set up your file under their serial number, change the serial number before you upload.
-
Your company file is activated and stored in My Library.
-
You’re the file owner or online admin. Only these roles can upload a company file. The file owner is usually the person who bought the subscription.
Need a hand?
If you get stuck, the help article has troubleshooting tips, like checking your internet speed and security software. You can also ask on the MYOB Community Forum, where our team and other AccountRight users can help.
If you can't move your file online, AccountRight Server Edition is a temporary solution that may support working offline for the short-term.
MYOB does not recommend this approach. Server Edition is built on older technology that no longer meets today’s performance standards.
There are a few things to be aware of when using the Server Edition:
- In the near future, this pathway will stop working and you will no longer be able to use it.
- Server Edition will only receive bug fixes, not any monthly version updates, security updates or new features and enhancements.
- Server Edition will only support offline files. Version 2026.4 will be the last Server Edition release supporting online files. To access online files, you will need to download and install the latest version of AccountRight PC Edition or login to AccountRight in the Browser.
There is no guarantee MYOB will be able to support this option in future.
For temporary access to offline files, download and install Server Edition below.
